Mukhtara Mai was a victim of gang rape back in 2002. After her brother was accused of having relations with a girl from a rival clan, the village council ordered her ‘gang rape’ to punish her brother. However, she went to court to fight against those involved and, ever since then, has always raised her voice for victims of sexual assault.
Mukhtar Bibi has lent her support to Aurat March and shared that she attends the march in Multan, Karachi, and Islamabad. In a video clip shared on Twitter by Aurat March Multan, Mukhtara said that she goes on to the march to represent the women in rural areas and highlight the struggles that they have to face.
Aurat March is an annual event held in cities like Lahore, Islamabad, Multan, and more to observe ‘International Women’s Day’ and demand rights for women in Pakistan.
