Pakistani Lawyer Mary Gills wins Anna Lindh Prize for her campaign #SweepersAreSuperheroes

A lawyer from Pakistan Mary Gill has won the year’s Anna Lindh Prize. Gill won the prize for her campaign #SweepersAreSuperheroes. She was nominated by WaterAid Sweden. The chairman of Anna Lindh’s Memorial Fund said that Marry Gill’s insistent work for the most unsafe ‘groups’ of the society is entirely in line with the values that Anna Lindh stood up for.

The campaign basically works to give protection to the rights of sanitation workers to provide maximum safety. It was launched as #SweeperHeroes in the year 2017.

What is the Anna Lindh prize?

The Anna Lindh prize is given to an organization, project, or individual which works internationally. Mary is a Pakistan’s Human Rights activist, a former MPA, a member of #WomenInLaw as well as a lawyer.

The basic aim of the award is to show appreciation and encouragement to ‘women and youth’ who work in Anna Lindh’s spirit to work against oppression, injustice and indifference to make a society where the ‘Human Rights’ are given due importance.
