Huda Al-Matroushi is breaking stereotypes by running a garage in the UAE

Tapping into the car repair business, an industry that has been dominated by men for the longest time in the Arab world is Huda al-Matroushi. The Emirati woman has broken stereotypes and definitely proven people wrong by choosing such an unusual career for women.

While talking about her profession, she said that she enjoys the work a lot, and is proud of herself because not only is she really good at what she does, but it is something that belongs to her. The 36-year-old has had a hobby for cars since childhood. Matroushi is into cars and their models and details. When it comes to automobiles, she loves them all.

“I like cars, their models and details. I like sports cars, luxurious cars and even normal non-luxurious ones. I love them all”, she said.

She has definitely turned a great job by turning her passion into a profession and now owns and manages a car repair shop in Sharjah, UAE.

When she first started out in the business, Matroushi’s family had their doubts, but she asked her father to take a leap of faith with her. She urged him to trust her, he did, and it paid off. Many people in her family are shocked to see her, because this business is unusual and difficult for women.

Matroushi’s employee, Mohammad Halawani, said it was strange to see a woman in charge first, as it was something he was unfamiliar with before. However, as they started working together as a team, it became more and more clear to him that she had experience in the field.

The 36-year-old’s aim with the business is to one day turn her single garage into a big repair center, and open more garages across the UAE.
