Dr. Javed Iqbal recently shared a picture of training female surgeons on Twitter. Iqbal captioned the picture questioning the stereotypical belief about female surgeons. He also expressed his humbleness over being able to train the seven female surgeons in his unit.
Although Javed’s post should’ve been lauded, some ‘men’ thought he was misleading women. Replying to the surgeon’s tweet, a user replied that he disagrees because women do not have the physical capabilities for being a surgeon. Some also commented saying that Dr. Javed should’ve instead told the training surgeons to observe ‘pardah.’
A woman also opened up about being demoralized by her fellow doctors when she was doing her surgery house job. She also mentioned how it became the reason why she left the house job.
While there were many disappointing comments under Javed’s post, there were also some positive and empowering comments from men, who acknowledged the need for female surgeons.
