A man from Lahore has been arrested for hiding his first marriage from his second wife. Rehmat Ali also has children from his first wife.
The second wife, Arfah Naz, claims that Ali had not told her about his first marriage. She also revealed that she agreed to marry the guy thinking he was ‘single.’ Two days after the marriage, Arfah got to know about her husband’s first marriage and children. She registered an FIR against him at Shahdara police station. Rehmat Ali has been sent to jail on judicial remand by the district court.
According to, section 6(5) of the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961, a man should submit written permission from his first wife if he wishes to get married again. If a man violates the law, then he will be imprisoned for one year.
