Some social media users have been sharing profiles of Muslim women on an Indian website as their Sulli ‘deal of the day.’ The app ‘Sulli Deals’ was created by GitHub. According to the reports by Indian media, the app has been operating for about 20 days.
When users opened the app, it would ask them to ‘Find their Sulli deal of the day.’ The photo of Muslim women would then be shared.
Women were absolutely horrified to see their pictures being shared without their consent. After a lot of backlash and outrage, GitHub has taken the app down. People are infuriated over how the website violated the basic rules of privacy of an individual.
Before Eid-ul-Fitr this year, a YouTube channel called ‘Liberal Doge’ streamed Eid pictures of Muslim women and ‘rated’ them without their consent.
