In an online Women’s Forum marking 70 years of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations, Minister for Human Rights, Dr Shireen Mazari laid emphasis on the achievements of women in the two countries.
Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing in partnership with the All-China Women Association and All Pakistan Women Association organized the forum. It highlighted important issues like poverty, the role of women in post-COVID recovery and women’s rights.
The Minister talked about the importance of Pakistan and China’s partnership and how CPEC will create opportunities for people in Pakistan.
She added that she hoped to see women also being included in technical and vocational training being conducted under the partnership.
While talking about COVID-19, she highlighted the steps taken by the incumbent government to ensure protection of girls and women during lockdown, since pandemics worsen the current gender inequalities.
To register human rights violations and complaints, the national helpline 1099 as well as the app was used. A secret code ‘MOHR 1099’ was used to help victims of domestic abuse who cannot report in the presence of their abusers.
The minister added that the government has taken important steps to provide legal protection regarding violence against women, discrimination, harassment and rape.
