Divorce rate increases alarmingly in Rawalpindi. Why?

Reports have revealed that about 550 couples have split and sought a divorce in Rawalpindi. In addition to this, 250 couples have also filed applications for Khula certificates in MCR.

Four to five divorce cases are being filed regularly, with as many as 2,900 cases pending. While speaking to a media outlet, MCR Council Officer (CO) Noshia Afzal revealed that ‘poverty’ was not the prime reason behind the separations. Misunderstandings and improper family systems were the cause instead.

The global pandemic, frustration, and financial strain that came with it have damaged not only health but also personal relations. The divorce rate during the lockdown has shown a disturbing increase not only in Pakistan, but worldwide.
