Angelina Jolie has recently made an official Instagram account and has already surpassed 7 million followers. The Hollywood superstar joined the app solely to speak up for the Afghans suffering from human rights violations.
In her first-ever post on IG, the star shared a letter from an Afghan girl. The actress wrote in the caption, ‘This is a letter I was sent from a teenage girl in Afghanistan. Right now, the people of Afghanistan are losing their ability to communicate on social media and to express themselves freely.’ She shed light on how she created an account on the app to share the voices of those who are fighting for their ‘basic human rights.’
Jolie also shared that 20 years ago, she was on the Afghan border two weeks before 9/11. She mentioned that she met the Afghan refugees who had fled the Taliban. She further wrote, ‘It is sickening to watch Afghans being displaced yet again out of the fear and uncertainty that has gripped their country.’
‘To spend so much time and money, to have bloodshed and lives lost only to come to this, is a failure almost impossible to understand,’ she wrote. Angelina expressed how absolutely ‘sickening’ it is Afghan refugees who are some of the ‘most capable’ people in the world are treated like a ‘burden.’
Jolie assured that she will not turn away. She will continue to look for ways in which she can help the cause. She expected those reading her post to help her in the process.
In a second post, Angelina Jolie talked about how she is working with displaced people and her motivation behind it.
