Grooming is such a rigid word, which somehow implies that one should look a certain way to be GROOMED. Grooming can mean something else to some and totally different to others. Today we are going to look at grooming in a ‘self-care kind of way’.
So raise your hand sisters (or don’t) if you, like me, haven’t rain checked on that pedicure appointment, or haven’t given a day or two more than what’s normal to get those brows made from your parlor baji? Don’t know about you lot, but I have.
You know these days popular ‘Self-care Sundays’ are a thing and I have been quite actively reading up people who indulge in these regimes that they have set for themselves, to give me – a young tired momma – some motivation.
~ WEAR PRESENTABLE CLOTHES
Wear anything, jeans with a nice top, kurta pajamas, shalwar kameez, whatever works out for you, do that, but do it with tameez. Now, we all know how white pajamas go with all the kurtas we have but NO- the staple white pajama jitna bhi awaami ho….needs a break. Wear your nice kurta with matching pajamas/shalwars.
Similarly, jeans with a plain white or black tee might look good on Mahira but not that much on me. Take those nice shirts out of the closet, linen spray them to make them smell nice, iron them and rock them! These super simple steps, especially because they will appear more put together, will also make you feel so organized.
~ SPLURGE ON ITEMS ON DAILY USE
The things one uses daily like face-wash, shower gel, moisturizers/sunscreens & lip care products need to be splurged on. Invested – not in terms of money only, but in terms of reading up on them, being educated about them and finding the formulas that are curated especially for your skin type. Acne-prone skin needs salicylic acid for calming them pimples down. Likewise, dry skin needs hyaluronic acids to give you that extra boost of moisture. Put in a little effort for yourself. Read up on your products. Thanks to the internet, everything is just one click away!
Yes. This needs special attention too. You don’t need to go the salons to look prim n proper. Shape them brows sister. Give yourself a trim after 6 weeks. The ‘laziness’ might take over when you have kids and you are a young, always-exhausted-mama, but fulfill your commitments towards you and never stop putting the effort in yourself.
At-home pedicures and manicure are just as nice and calming as the salon ones are. If you are into waxing them, do that. The idea is to take time for yourself and put it to use rather than just scrolling through Instagram, while sitting on the couch.
~ SHAVE, TRIM, THREAD, WAX!!
Yes. This needs special attention too. You don’t need to go the salons to look prim n proper. You can shape them brows, sister! Give yourself a trim after 6 weeks. At-home pedicures and manicure are just as nice and calming as the salon ones are. Just push yourself and make time for it!
If you’re are into waxing them, do that. The idea is to take time for yourself and put it to use rather than just scrolling through Instagram. Doing these things may seem normal to you, but tell me, haven’t we all felt a bit fierce after that monthly eyebrow threading? I know I do. I tend to take extra time to fill up my brows and make them look nice after I get them threaded.
Similarly trimming your split ends will keep your mane looking really tidy. Also do remember that long hair is a high maintenance decision as well as any hard-to-keep-up with haircut. Think before you make a choice.
~ EAT, BUT EAT WELL
Good eating habits and proper eating can do so much for your body and mind that one can not stress enough. Proper nutritious breakfast will ensure that you are ready to take on the day. Choose grains for your diet, preferably whole grains. They improve digestion. Greens are also a MUST in your diet.
Choose salads, salsa, tortilla chips – munch on them throughout the day. Green vegetables promote cell turnover so it also helps in slowing down our aging process as well as making our skin. Lastly cut down on your saturated fats and sugar. This is an arrow with two heads. It will combat obesity and handle cravings. Proper eating habits say a lot about you. A healthy & happy person is someone with clean-eating habits and rightly so.
~ GIVE YOUR PHONE A BREAK
We wake up with the sound of alarms on our phones and instantly log in to our social media. Why do we do that? Do you know how unhealthy it is for us to look into & get glued to our screens as soon as we wake up?
We also end our night scrolling through Instagram & Facebook, giving ourselves unrealistic goals and complexes which -in the first place- are not ours to have. So put that phone down girl. Work on your inner thoughts. Think about your day – how can you make it more productive?
Think about the things you missed out on, tasks you couldn’t finish on time. What went wrong? Think about that stalled doctor’s appointment that you have to go to. Talk to yourself. Sort things out with ‘you’. A happier you will mean a happier environment for your family & loved ones.
Grooming or no grooming you need to fix-up some time for yourself to live a more balanced and fulfilled life. I just shared my map with you, so you can get your motivation rolling. Share yours with me too!
And yes, remember to love yourself. Good luck!
