Pakistani-born set to become the first Muslim woman to be appointed as the US Attorney

Saima Mohsin becomes the first-ever Muslim woman prosecutor in the United States. She has been selected as the acting attorney for Michigan’s Eastern District.

Moshin was previously working as the First Assistant United States Attorney. Under the Vacancies Reform Act, Saima will immediately assume office as Acting US Attorney’ as told by the US Justice Department. The department further added that she is a ‘career prosecutor’ and has been serving in the Attorney’s Office since 2002. Before this, she served as a Deputy New Jersey Attorney General and an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan.

Mathew Schneider stated that he was very ‘pleased’ to be leaving the US Attorney’s Office to Saima since ‘she is one of the finest federal prosecutors’ he knows. Moreover, he called Saima’s service ‘historic’ since she is the first Muslim immigrant woman US Attorney in America’s history.
