Angelina Jolie has recently partnered up with BBC and Microsoft Education to produce a show that helps young individuals differentiate between “fake news” and “factual information” in the globalized world of today.
We live in a time where there is an infinite influx of information, it is all presented in a “professional” way which makes it extremely difficult for someone who is young and doesn’t exactly have the life experience that teaches one to not believe everything they see on TV or read about on the internet.
Remember: Just because it’s on the internet, doesn’t make it true.
Instances of fake news are at an all-time high and as much as the leading websites are trying to get ahead of them by introducing “fact check” features, they’re always going to be there.
Angelina’s show “My World” will tackle this issue.
Mehwish Hayat posted a teaser of an episode of the show that features her! Pakistani actors and actresses are among the least represented professionals in the world. The profession is surrounded by tonnes of rumours and myths that deter potential new-comers from joining the field and makes it hard for existing actors and actresses to continue working in a safe environment.
From the teaser, it looks like she’ll also be addressing the gender pay gap in the industry, something that has been a major topic of discussion in Hollywood.
Mehwish took to twitter to talk about how grateful she is to be able to promote Pakistan on an international scale – this is something most Pakistani artists don’t get a chance to do!
It’s exciting to see our actors and actresses being taken seriously by the international media. We can’t wait for the episode to finally release so we can join Mehwish and take a look at how things really work behind the scenes of the Pakistani TV and Film industry.
