Recently in the Islamkot area of Faisalabad, her husband was strangled to death for not allowing him to marry the second time.
According to Section 6(5) of the Muslim Family Laws Ordinance 1961, a man who intends to get married again to another woman has to submit a ‘written permission’ from his first wife. In case the law is violated, he may be punished in one year of imprisonment.
The victim’s father reported that Zeeshan was bringing up the second marriage topic 11 years after his first one, but Saima refused to allow him. Moreover, he used to beat the victim often too. Investigation Officer, Lal Khan, reported that the culprit initially said that his wife had died of a heart attack; however, he later confessed his crime during questioning.
An FIR has been registered against the individual responsible, and the body has been sent for postmortem investigation.
