Pakistani biologist, Dr. Asifa Akhtar, to receive Germany’s ‘highest scientific award’

Dr. Asifa Akhtar is a Pakistani biologist who is known for her contributions in the field of chromosome regulations. She has been selected to receive the ‘Leibniz Award,’ which is Germany’s highest scientific award.

With the award, she will also be receiving a cash prize of 2.5 million euros. Asifa has been nominated for the award because of her work on ‘mechanisms of epigenetic gene regulation’ and ‘understanding chromosome regulation.’

The German Consulate General Karachi has congratulated Dr. Asifa on her big achievement and stated that she makes both Pakistan and Germany ‘proud’ with her excellent work.

Dr. Asifa Akhtar is currently working at the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology and Epigenetics as a director. Other than this, she is also serving as the Vice President of the Max Planck Society.
