Pakistan’s highly talented taekwondo star Maham Aftab has passed away at the young age of 26 years. Maham lost her fight to a brain tumor in Lahore.
The gold medal winner in a championship in Jordan was diagnosed with the disease only one month back. Aftab was a national champion for seven years, and she was the first female athlete to win a medal for Pakistan in an international competition.
She not only won in national and international events but also represented Pakistan in the Youth Olympics held in Indonesia. Maham had quit competing in taekwondo tournaments about five years ago.
Pakistan Taekwondo Federation President Col (r) Waseem Ahmed, honoring the athlete, said that the prizes she had won for her country, along with her services, will always be remembered.
“May God Almighty rest the departed soul in eternal peace and give courage and fortitude to the family to bear this irreparable loss”, he said.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) expressed its shock on hearing the news on its Twitter account.
