Winter making your skin too dry? Try these tips to bring your glow on.

Let’s face it. Many of us get real lazy when it comes to keeping a strict skin care routine. What makes it even more difficult you think? Freezing cold weather. I don’t know about you but I can’t even make it out of bed on a cold morning. My skin is super dry. So what motivates me to drag myself out of the comfort of my warm and cosy bed? The fact that if I don’t cleanse, tone, moisturise and scrub my face, I will end up looking like a flaky monster. It’s not necessary to indulge in a lengthy and hours long skin care routine. Even a simple cleanse, tone and moisturising ritual will do wonders for your skin.  

Winter is here and as the weather gets colder, our skin starts losing its moisture and becomes dry, flaky and itchy. We need to replenish the moisture that is lost. By following a few simple rules, we can avoid dry and patchy skin.

What Can help:

1.Drinking water:

Most of us drink very less water during winter. I mean face it, who wants to spend most of their day going to the toilet? As the air is very cold, our body loses water quickly. You need to stay hydrated and drink lots of water.

2.Use lukewarm water:

Nothing feels better than washing your face with hot water on a cold morning. Instead use lukewarm water. Hot water makes your skin dry very quickly leading to cracks and patchy skin.

3.Moisturize:

Avery essential part of your skincare is MOISTURIZING. Please invest in a good moisturizer as you will notice its benefits in the long run. There are many available in the market. You just need to see which one works best for you. Some moisturizers contain drying agents which make your skin worse.

Avoid buying those which contain the following:

  • Alcohols
  • Artificial fragrances or colours
  • Petrolatum or petroleum

4.Exfoliate:

Our skin sheds old cells and replaces it with new ones. This process usually takes about a month. The buildup of old cells on the skin appears as patches and flakes.  We need to exfoliate regularly depending on our skin type to remove dead skin cells.

5.Sunscreen:

Although during winter we might like the idea of hot sun rays on our face and body. The UV rays can still damage our skin. Don’t forget to apply your sunscreen before leaving your house.

These are just a few tips that you can follow to make sure your skin stays nice and happy. While caring for your face, don’t forget about your body. Your hands and feet need attention and love as well. Purchase a moisturising body wash and make sure you avoid hot water baths. Moisturise as soon as you get out of the shower. Keep a humidifier in your room to increase moisture in the air. Once you’re done with all the basics, sit back and enjoy your soft and smooth skin.
