Do you know your shampoo might have ingredients that are harmful to you and the environment as well?Many people don’t feel the need to go through the ingredient list of a shampoo. Infact, majority are not mindful when choosing a shampoo and end up facing severe consequences.

Whenever you buy a shampoo, be sure to go thoroughly through the ingredients of the product. You should watch out for the toxic ingredients.

1- Sodium Lauryl Sulfate – SLS

Sodium Lauryl sulfate.

The lathering foam that your shampoos create is basically because of sulfate. Multiple people prefer shampoos that lather because they think they clean the hair better. However, SLS has numerous drawbacks. It can damage the hair follicles. It can even cause hair loss. Individuals with dyed hair have to look out for sulfates because they can strip away the natural moisture of the hair leaving them dry, damaged and brittle.

2- Sodium Chloride

Sodium chloride.

Sodium Chloride is put into a shampoo with the purpose of thickening the consistency. Sodium chloride can cause dryness and itchiness on the scalp all of which can lead to hair fall.

3- Parabens

Parabens.

Parabens are basically xenoestrogens. This means their composition and makeup is similar to hormones. Xenoestrogens are a hated chemical because they can disturb hormonal levels in the body. They might even cause cancer.

4- Dimethicone

Dimethicone in shampoo harmful effects.

Dimethicone is a again a commonly used ingredient in hair products. This ingredient causes product buildup which collects dirt and hinders moisture. This ultimately clogs the pores.

5- Synthetic fragrances

Well, everyone loves a good smelling shampoo. But the bad news is, you might actually want to avoid the synthetic fragrances because they contain multiple chemicals. Other than causing hairloss, the fragrance might even cause cancer.

Other harmful ingredients include formaldehyde, polyethylene glycol, SLES, alcohol, etc.
