Designer Zara Shahjahan recently took to Instagram to address the messed-up beauty standards of society. She posted a picture of her models who were made a target of immense criticism for their color and the way they looked.
Zara described how she had a shoot in Turkey for which her team had left early. But the day she and her model had to leave, Turkey announced quarantine so they had to hire models from there for their campaign. She hired two Mexican models who flew from LA. What disappointed the designer were the mean comments people gave to her models. People couldn’t stop hating the models for the way they looked and a person even commented that they look like ‘maids.’
Zara expressed how saddened she was reading such remarks from people and questioned why the public always wants models that are fair.
The designer’s post was received with many positive comments from people who are against colorism and racism. Many complimented how beautiful the models were.
