The whole nation is mourning Bilquis Edhi’s death. The mother of orphans has left a void that no one can fill.
Bilquis was the caretaker of hundreds of babies. The other half of late Abdul Sattar Edhi breathed her last in Karachi. She had also received Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Justice. Pakistanis are grieving the loss and thanking her for her contributions.
According to sources, Bilquis was suffering from lung and heart issues. She died of congestive cardiac failure.
Celebrities have taken to social media to express their grief. Actress and singer Hadiqa Kiani posted a throwback picture with Bilquis. In the caption, she paid tribute to her. Kiani wrote, ‘She took the world’s burden on her back and stood up to simply help the world become a better place.’ The actress also believes that she was a ‘vessel of aid’ for those in need. Moreover, she also expressed how grateful she would be to her for trusting her with being a mother. ‘My source, to bring me to my son Naaday Ali,’ she wrote.
Veteran actress Samina Peerzada Tweeted that our real heroes are Bilquis Edhi and Abdul Sattar Edhi. ‘They will be missed,’ she wrote.
Quratulain Baloch wrote, ‘You and Edhi sahab taught us humanity and what it’s like to be selfless. Rest in peace now.’
Actor Adnan Siddiqui stated that Bilquis Edhi’s ‘humanitarian work’ will inspire generations. ‘It takes rare selflessness to dedicate your entire life to serving humanity,’ he wrote.
Filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy also mourned the loss of Bilquis. ‘She was our conscience in many ways – uplifting the marginalized with her love and sheer determination,’ Chinoy wrote.
‘The nation lost one of its mothers today,’ wrote actress Ayesha Omar.
Singer Komal Rizvi wrote on her social media, ‘Pyari Bilquis aapa. Apki Kami puray Pakistan ko mehsoos hogi.’
