Mahira Khan urges PM Imran Khan to get the domestic violence bill passed

Previously, the internet was outraged when the ‘domestic violence bill’ was rejected and not passed. The bill ensured the security of women and other domestic abuse victims. However, some people labeled it ‘unIslamic’ and were strictly against its imposition.

Since then, many prominent celebrities and personalities have urged the government to pass the much-needed bill. One of these celebrities is Pakistan’s most famous actress, Mahira Khan. The Superstar lead has asked the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, to get the bill passed without any delay.

After the Noor Mukadam murder case, PM Khan assured the public that no matter how influential the criminal’s family is, he will not be spared ‘if found guilty’.

Mahira Khan shared the video on her social media account and captioned it: “This! Now please, please get the domestic bill passed”. She reminded that there aren’t laws in the country that ensure the security of women ad their safety. This is one of the reasons why women are made victims of abuse.

Osman Khalid Butt also tweeted about the matter.

Ayesha Omar re-tweeted Mahira’s tweet, agreeing with what she has said.

Considering what has been going on in Pakistan in the past couple of weeks, it is absolutely crucial that such bills are passed, approved, and made part of the legislation. Every week there is a new hashtag or Twitter trend, asking justice for victims of domestic abuse, rape, and other horrendous crimes. Unless there are laws that ensure strict penalties for criminals, women in the country will continue to be made a target.
