Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy adds yet another feather into her cap as she wins the ‘Best Film’ award at the South Asian Film Festival Montréal 2020 (SAFFM) for her series, ‘Home1947’.
The series shed light on the lives of millions who had to leave their homes and were uprooted from their places after the separation of Pakistan and India. SOC Films has created a masterpiece taking us back into a time that we have experienced mostly through the words of politicians and historians.
Chinoy made sure that she makes the public see those heart-touching times through the eyes of common people, numerous of which were separated from their loved ones and homes. The series tells an impactful, and heart-touching story through documentaries, historical archives, and voiceovers.
Home1947 is much more than clips. These are the heart-wrenching memories of the past, dark secrets, and nostalgia for places that our ancestors once lived in. The short film initially premiered at the Manchester International Festival UK and afterward in India, Lahore, and Karachi. The series can now be seen on SOC Film’s YouTube channel.
It is truly refreshing to see that an international platform has acknowledged and valued this emotional, heart-warming series.
