A Pakistani-American couple drowned four days after their marriage while they were on their honeymoon in the Caribbean. The two got married in East Meadow on Long Island, a suburb of New York.
The groom was 35-year-old Muhammad Malik, an attorney in Manhattan, and his 29-year old wife, Dr. Noor Shah, was a surgeon in the city. The two passed away while honeymooning at a Turks and Caicos resort in the Bahamas.
The deceased couple was swimming in waters near Como Parrot Cay when they were suddenly pulled underwater by a strong riptide.
Witnesses pulled the two out of the water, and performed CPR to save their lives but failed to do so.
“It’s devastating This is a shock beyond belief. And it’s a tragedy of different dimensions when you have to lay two children to rest in a joint funeral”, father of the groom, Col (retd) Maqbool Malik said.
He criticized the resort for lack of warning signs for the swimmers to warn them about riptides. According to the groom’s father, the two were truly fond of one another.
“The kind of chemistry that we saw in those two human beings was amazingly fascinating. They loved each other”, he added.
