As a tribute to Malala Yousafzai and her hard work towards the cause of education of women, The United Nations previously declared the 12th of July as ‘Malala Day.’
The United States Congress has passed a bill named after the Nobel Peace Laureate and Oxford Graduate, Malala Yousafzai, which increases the number of scholarships available to Pakistani women. It has been done keeping in view the young Nobel Prize winner’s contributions towards women empowerment.
According to the act, if the Pakistani women meet the scholarship criteria, then USAID will be giving at least 50% scholarships to them in multiple academic fields.
The House of Representatives passed the bill last year in March; however, it is voted to be implemented on 1st January 2021. It has currently been sent to President Donald Trump to be signed and approved into law.
