DETAILS | HEC announces scholarships for Masters and Ph.D.

To facilitate students who want to study in the United Kingdom (UK), the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced Commonwealth Scholarships for Ph.D. and masters students.

UK Foreign is funding these scholarships. The aim of these scholarships is to enable motivated students to add to their skillset. The scholarships will also help those who cannot afford to study in the UK.

Offered programs

The scholarships are for students who come from low-and-middle-income Commonwealth countries, for studying in the UK full time.

They are offered under the six themes:

Providing access to higher education and
opportunity

       Improving the health system

     Promoting global prosperity

      Strengthening resilience

     Strengthening global peace

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible to apply for masters, you need to have all the documents in the required format. You also need to show that you cannot study in the UK without a scholarship.

By the month of September 2022, you need to have a degree of upper second class (2:1) honors standard or a second class degree (2:2) and a relevant postgraduate degree. If you are applying for a second masters degree, you need to brief why you are doing so.

To be eligible for Ph.D., you need to be a citizen or at least have a ‘refugee status’ by an eligible Commonwealth country. You can also be a ‘British Protected Person’. You need to be a permanent resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.

You are required to be available to start your academic studies in the UK by the start of September 2022.

Again, you also need to have a degree of upper second class (2:1) honors standard or a second class degree (2:2) and a relevant postgraduate degree.

You should not be registered for a Ph.D. or an MPhil leading to a Ph.D., at a UK university or even your home country before September or October 2022. Again, you need the required documents and show proof that you can’t study in the UK without the scholarship.
