How to get the perfectly smooth Insta-finish with your foundation!

Let’s talk foundation today – perhaps the most important yet the least talked about part of your makeup routine.

Let’s be real, guys. Real human skin has pores, it has fine lines, it has discoloration and it has texture. There is nothing…NOTHING…wrong with it.

However, there are a few easy steps, that if done correctly, can make HELLLLLAAA difference in the finished look. Particularly if you have textured skin and you have an event coming up, this routine can particularly help you choose the right products.

LET’S DISCUSS!🔊

STEP ONE: MOISTURISE OF COURSE!

To moisturize, with the right primer, is the MOST CRUCIAL step of your foundation routine. If you have uneven or textured skin, it is a suggestion to use gel or water-based moisturizers. They do the job without making your skin oily.

My favorite one is from Benton. It is their Aloe Propolis Gel. You can find it in Pakistan within the price range of Rs. 2600-2900. I personally term it as an ‘investment’ because of how many purposes this one product fulfills. It soothes irritated skin, fights acne scars, keeps your breakouts at the pay and gives your skin the healthiest glow without making it oily – AT ALL.

I personally like to mix it with my foundation as well. It gives a very healthy glow and finish, plus stays put for quite a while too!

STEP TWO: PRIME WITH A SMOOTHING PRIMER!

Primers come for different purposes. You need to pick the most perfect one for your skin condition. If you are struggling with the textured skin, it will be appropriate to choose a ‘smoothing primer’.

My favourite choices are No Poreblem Primer by Touch In Sol (Rs. 2850) and NYX Angel Veil Primer. They fill in the pores and give you a smooth canvas to work with!

STEP THREE: STAY AWAY FROM FULL COVERAGE FOUNDATIONS

A mistake commonly made! Full-coverage foundations, as they have a thicker consistency, can cling to your rough patches. Personally I find that when I have textured skin, full-coverage foundations give a very rough finished look, which is not very flattering.

I love Maybelline Fit Me. I wholeheartedly believe that it is one of the BEST products makeup fraternity has ever produced. However, if you have discoloration and need additional coverage, the best way to spot conceal. It gives a better finished look.

STEP FOUR: SET SELECTIVE AREAS

The final, conclusive, most important step of your routine is setting your face. Your focus should be to apply less powder and drying products in the areas where your skin is textured.

Hence, only set the areas that NEED to be set. For me, it is mostly my undereye and T-zone. You are already using blush, bronzer and highlight on your face. You don’t need additional powders to dry you out more.

For powder suggestions, my favourite currently are the above two: Becca Hydra-mist and Luscious Oil-control Pressed Powder.
