90-year old Bob Shellard has been married to his wife Nancy for 67 years. Every year he does something special for her on their wedding anniversary. This year, their anniversary happened to be right at the time where people had to start practising social distancing because of the Coronavirus Covid-19.
People above the age of 60 stand at high-risk and told to be kept isolated. Nancy falls into this category.
She’s had dementia for a while now and struggles to remember most things at this point, she lives in an assisted home and they have their high-risk residents on complete lock-down.
But that wasn’t going to stop Bob from making their anniversary special anyway.
In classic Hollywood style, he went outside her room’s window and held up a hand-painted sign that said “I’ve loved you 67 years and still do, Happy Anniversary”
“Nothing has changed about the way I love her, she’s lost so much of her memory but she remembers me, every time I go there, she knows it’s me”Bob Shellard
Bob and Nancy have never spent a single anniversary apart in 67 years. Yet they had to improvise this year to keep each other safe from Covid-19.
If they can do it, so can you. Practice social distancing, keep yourself and your loved ones safe. There’s plenty of ways to show your love and support in times like this, you just have to think outside the box.
